Common Questions:
Does Acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture is mostly painless. The needles used are so tiny that most of the needles are not even felt when they are inserted. Some needles may be felt but it is usually quick (like a mosquito bite) and then painless either immediately or after just a few seconds.

Are the needles re-used?
NEVER! Modern Acupuncture uses sterile needles out of sealed packages for individual treatment use.
What conditions can be treated?
Dr. Gonzalez is a Chiropractor licensed by the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners, therefore her scope of practice is limited to the musculoskeletal system and general health and wellness. If you wish to use Acupuncture to treat an issue outside of Dr. Gonzalez' scope of practice, we are happy to refer you to a licensed Acupuncturist who can treat those types of issues. See "General Questions" section for examples of what we treat.

I went to a Chiropractor before and wasn't impressed with my experience, why should I come to SAH?
Every doctor is different. Each have unique practice styles, technique choices, and equally different "bedside manners" or way of communicating with patients. Finding a doctor that you are comfortable with is an important decision to make. Dr. Gonzalez strives to make your care very personal as well as educational. She does not participate in "care plans" pressuring patients into expensive treatment schedules. Progress is measured at each visit and the doctor determines the next appointment timing based on that patient's individual progress, not on a predetermined "plan."

Once I begin Chiropractic care, will I have to keep coming in?
Dr. Gonzalez does not require patients to sign care plan contracts and/or pay for a treatment plan in advance. Each patient is assessed on an individual basis and necessity for and timing of follow-up visits are determined on a visit-by-visit basisBecause of this, most patients find that they spend far less in our office in comparison to other offices. After being treated for your complaint, chances are, you will choose to participate in what we call "maintenance care" to maintain your spinal health after you realize how great you feel after an adjustment! Only a small portion of the nervous system is involved with sensing pain, so it is important to get regular Chiropractic care to maintain spinal health even if you are not experiencing symptoms. Keeping your spine in proper alignment can also decrease the rate of degenerative changes (aging) of the spinal structures and discs by allowing proper movement between each spinal segment.
I'm afraid Chiropractic can hurt and the "snaps" and "pops" make me uncomfortable.
Doctor Gonzalez practices multiple types of adjusting techniques including techniques that are low-force and no-force. Don't let a fear of Chiropractic "pops" and "snaps" prevent you from benefiting from the care of a Chiropractor. Talk to Dr. Gonzalez about any concerns you have so that she may utilize a treatment type that you are comfortable with!
Will I need to have an X-ray or other imaging?
It is always helpful to bring any recent reports and/or films you've had with you to your initial appointment. If Dr. Gonzalez requires imaging (or additional imaging) for a patient, she uses a local imaging center for X-ray, CT, or MRI. We do not have X-ray in-house because imaging is often unecessary. Dr. Gonzalez feels that, although it might be more convenient to have it in-house at times, the expense outweighs the necessity and that some doctors might feel obligated to utilize imaging more than necessary in order to validate that expense. Also, studies at the imaging center are read by a Board Certified Radiologist which gives Dr. Gonzalez more peace of mind.
What types of conditions are treated?
We treat a wide array of musculoskeletal conditions such as neck pain, back pain, low back pain, sciatica, bulging discs, disc protrusions, disc herniations, migraines, headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, fibromyalgia, tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis), ankle sprain or strain, wrist sprain or strain, iliotibial band syndrome (I.T. band syndrome), shoulder pain, knee pain, thoracic outlet syndrome (T.O.S.), and many other related musculoskeletal conditions. What is the difference between seeing my Medical Doctor vs. a Chiropractor?
For musculoskeletal conditions, the main tools of choice for a Medical Doctor are prescription drugs, possibly referral to a physical therapist, and as a last resort, surgery. A Chiropractor's main tools for musculoskeletal conditions are adjusting the spine, extremities and using other physical modalities such as soft tissue mobilization, stretching, exercises, Acupuncture, etc. The choice between going to a Medical Doctor vs. a Chiropractor mostly depends on the patient's treatment preferences (a medical/surgical approach vs. a holistic approach). The examination is often very similar and both Medical Doctors and Chiropractors can order necessary imaging such as X-ray, MRI, or CT.

Do you accept Auto Accident/Personal Injury Cases?
As of April 1, 2015: Dr. Gonzalez is more than happy to treat patients with auto accident claims, however, payment will need to be made at the time(s) of service(s). She is happy to provide detailed billing for your potential reimbursement of those claims from the auto insurance provider or through settlement with your lawyer although she cannot guarantee reimbursement.

What does treatment at SAH cost?
Cost of treatment depends on your individual insurance plan, copays, deductibles, etc. For high deductible plans or cash patients, the initial visit for Chiropractic OR Acupuncture is usually between $85-130 and includes the consultation, exam and the first treatment. Follow-up visits range from $45-110 depending on what treatments that patient needs. IF imaging is required, that is done off-site and depends on your insurance plan or cash rate offered by the imaging center.
Dr. Gonzalez does not require patients to sign up and/or pay for a treatment plan in advance. Each patient is assessed on an individual basis and necessity for and timing of follow-up visits are determined on a visit-by-visit basis. Because of this, most patients find that they spend far less in our office in comparison to other offices.
